Glide through the town’s legendary lagoon mangroves by boat, spotting exotic birdlife. Settle in for the evening with a generous seafood welcome dinner at The Walawwa, right by the sea.

Ancient City by Bicycle

Transfer north to Anuradhapura, one of the ancient world’s great metropolises and Sri Lanka’s first capital. Cycle freely through its extraordinary ruins, visiting sacred shrines, moonstone carvings, and monumental stupas. At sunset, stand reverently beneath the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree, the world’s oldest documented tree and experience a moving cultural storytelling session with your guide. Overnight at Ulagalla by Uga Escapes.

Polonnaruwa Ruins & Temple Splendour

Cycle through the remarkably preserved Polonnaruwa Ancient City, discovering stunning royal palaces, ornate bathhouses, and the magnificent Gal Vihara, four colossal Buddha statues carved directly into a single granite face. Continue to the dramatic Dambulla Cave Temple as the late afternoon light glows golden. Visit a local handicraft workshop in the evening to observe traditional artisans at work.

Cultural Heart of the Island

Transfer to Kandy, a city of profound spiritual and cultural significance, nestled among misty hills. Explore the UNESCO-listed Sacred City, paying respects at the Temple of the Tooth Relic, which houses what is believed to be the Buddha’s sacred tooth. As evening falls, take a peaceful night walk around the atmospheric Kandy Lake, its illuminated reflections dancing on the still water.

Into Cloud Forest Wilderness

Venture into the enchanting Knuckles Mountain Range, a UNESCO World Heritage biosphere reserve draped in ancient cloud forests and inhabited by rare endemic species. Trek along nature trails shaded by towering trees, absorbing the untouched beauty and cool mountain air. Return to the hotel in the afternoon for peaceful relaxation, letting nature’s serenity fully rejuvenate your spirit.

Trains, Waterfalls & Tea Leaves

Begin a magnificent highland journey toward Nuwara Eliya, pausing en route at the thundering Ramboda Waterfall, which cascades dramatically down sheer cliff faces. Visit a working tea factory to discover the precise artistry behind Ceylon’s world-famous brew. Participate in a hands-on tea leaf plucking experience among the rolling estates before arriving in ‘Little England’ for the night.

World's End & Gregory Lake Serenity

Trek through the hauntingly beautiful Horton Plains National Park to reach World’s End, a sheer escarpment plunging nearly 870 metres, offering dramatic vistas across forest canopies and distant plains. Visit the cascading Baker’s Falls along the trail. Return to Nuwara Eliya refreshed, and spend a peaceful evening strolling the romantic shores of Gregory Lake as mist rolls through the hills.

The Most Scenic Train Ride

Board the legendary Nanu Oya to Ella train for an utterly breathtaking mountain railway journey through tunnels, viaducts, and tea-garden valleys. Optional adventure activities in Ella include abseiling, ziplining, and quad biking. Continue south toward Udawalawe, stopping for photographs at the spectacular Ravana Waterfall. Check into Forest Dew Udawalawe, your comfortable base for the wildlife experience ahead.

Udawalawe Safari & Into the Rainforest

At dawn, your jeep enters Udawalawe National Park, a sanctuary renowned for its extraordinary elephant population. Watch enormous tuskers roam freely across open grasslands, alongside water buffaloes, crocodiles, and diverse birdlife. After the exhilarating safari, transfer south toward the mystical Sinharaja Rainforest, checking into your eco-lodge nestled at the fringes of one of Asia’s last lowland rainforests.

Rainforest Trekking & Birdwatching

Immerse yourself in the UNESCO-listed Sinharaja Forest Reserve, accompanying a skilled naturalist deep into its emerald depths. Spot endemic birds found nowhere else on Earth, the Sri Lankan blue magpie, green-billed coucal, and Ceylon spurfowl. Wade through crystal-clear forest streams for a refreshing natural bath. Return to your eco-lodge for a memorable evening nature talk under the canopy.

Colonial Streets & Rampart Sunsets
