Sri Lanka’s coastline is a critical nesting habitat for five species of endangered sea turtles that return to the same beaches where they hatched to lay their eggs in a cycle of navigational instinct and biological continuity. Our turtle conservation experiences connect travellers with the hatcheries and beach patrol programmes along the coast that have been working for decades to protect these mariners from the threats of poaching, habitat loss and coastal development. Visitors can observe the collection and incubation of eggs, witness newly hatched turtles making their first journey to the ocean and learn from staff about the challenges and achievements of marine turtle protection in Sri Lanka.
